Fuel out day and lights out day

As some of you may know, we recently had a lights out day where people were urged to turn lights out at eight and leave them off for an hour. There is also a fuel out for tommorrow in which truckers urged to park for one day. Now as a trucker's wife, I really don't see how this is gonna help anything. These fuel companies know that if we don't buy fuel one day then we have to buy fuel the next day. All this does is shorten a trucker's payday. I think the only answer to this is alternative fuels, drilling on our own turf, and living a little different. The way to hurt these companies is to actually conserve our energy use. If everyone tried a little harder to save on fuel, daily, now that would be a big long term effect. It amazes me how much we complain on fuel cost, but then make several trips a day out of our home. Now don't get me wrong I loved our SUV, but the point is I could not afford the gas. If you can afford the gas for one, then go for it. But if you can't afford it then stay home. Line dry some clothes, turn lights off, ect. In any scenrio, we are going to have to learn to live with a little less. We can live with less now in hopes of turning the tides with these companies, or we can live with a little less later when we can't afford to drive to work or in our case can't afford to work all together. We are going to have to change this with God's help because obviouvly the government isn't.
